july 9
two days ago, i was handed a hard drive that contains a new 10-song octoberman record. it was co-produced by jim guthrie and features the regular toronto oct band (me, marshall, tavo, shaun, randy) plus lots of friendly guests including jimmy g, dave from fembots, andy and nace from the two-minute miracles, jeremy from the minotaurs and melissa from the wilderness of manitoba. we recorded the beds and vocals with andy magoffin at the house of miracles in london, ontario and did the rest of it in our toronto apartments. it was mixed by the man, howie beck. i’m not sure when it will be released yet.. hopefully sooner than later. to complicate matters we also just finished a 7 song ep so maybe you’ll even hear that first. either way, we hope you eventually enjoy these songs half as much as we enjoyed recording them. now the work begins.

We’ve got a busy couple of months coming up. It starts with a little jaunt to Ottawa and Montreal (Oct 16-17) followed by 3 & 1/2 weeks tooting around UK and Europe (check CALENDAR for updates). This’ll be the 4th octoberman tour across the Atlantic, but the first as a band (Marshall Bureau on drums, Tavo Diez de Bonilla on bass and keys, and me on a guitar I still need to buy). Needless to say, this is exciting for us. But even moreso will be returning to the studio upon landing back in Canada. This time it will be at the HOUSE OF MIRACLES in London, Ontario with the great Andy Magoffin (Great Lake Swimmers, Constantines, Hidden Cameras). JIM GUTHRIE also offered to help out and play on the record after he stumbled upon an INTERVIEW from last year where I was asked who I’d like to work on the next record with and I said Jim. Neat.

We love Brixton. Not only did we get to open for the great Jeffry Lewis at the Windmill, but we also ate delicious BBQ afterwards and even did a Brixton Session at a nearby ‘park’. Thanks to Robin for filming and hanging.

HERE is an interview I did last month with Pennyblack Music. I had a couple of lagers in me at the time of questioning.

On the eve of my birthday, my mom’s favourite show, Grey’s Anatomy, featured “Trapped In The New Scene” (episdode 6-20). I also just finished playing the first show of the 5 & 1/2 week European tour. The shows are pretty stripped down, featuring me backed up by some friends here and there (Tavo, members of Wilderness of Manitoba, Oldseed and others) and includes stops in England, Scotland, Holland, Germany, Belgium, and Switzerland (see tour page for details). New dates are still being added (including May 31 at the Windmill in Brixton opening up for Jeffrey Lewis). Tell your friends and lovers to come and say hello.
